Minnesota Weather: The Latest On Tornado Warnings, Watches, And Severe Thunderstorms
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Severe weather has spread across Minnesota this weekend. The National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes Sunday. They were in McLeod County near Silver Lake, Benton County near Foley, and Chisago County near Forest Lake.
Washington County officials say they have gotten no reports of serious injury, but nine structures were significantly damaged from the storms, including heavy tree damage.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says no assistance to residents from the American Red Cross was needed.
Benton County had one law-enforcement confirmed tornado on the ground just east of St. Cloud. A second radar-indicated tornado touched down in Pierce County in western Wisconsin.
Isanti and Pierce counties were under tornado warning until 4:45 p.m., and Washington County was under a tornado warning until 5 p.m.
The McCleod County emergency management director, Kevin Mathews, said they received a citizen's report of a tornado on the ground in the area of Biscay.
Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak says parts of Minnesota will see isolated storms throughout the day, while some areas, particularly in and around the metro, have the chance to experience severe weather.
The "conditional" threat surrounding the Twin Cities means potential for damaging wind, hail and tornadoes. The chance for tornadoes lasts until about 9 p.m.
Augustyniak says dew points are also up from yesterday, causing higher humidity.
High temperatures for Sunday remain in the 80s.
Storms are slated to taper off into the evening, with the next chance for rain shaping up to be Friday.
