MINNEAPOLIS — Sunday is a NEXT Weather Alert day due to excessive heat and humidity in the Twin Cities.

The metro will be under a heat advisory from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. as a warm front lifting through raises temperatures near the 90s. This will be our first dose of significant heat and humidity for the year.

Temperatures topped out at 88 on Sunday with a heat index of 92.

Storms will develop Sunday night and could produce large hail in the Twin Cities. A cold front will try to swing through, but it will retreat north as a warm front and hang nearby for Tuesday and Wednesday. This will mean daily storm chances through midweek, though there will be some dry time, too.

Temperatures will top out in the upper 70s on Monday and it will be slightly less humid. Clouds and storms are expected.

Humidity and heat will bump up on Tuesday with storms expected to return in the evening hours. There is a chance of severe weather in that system.

There will be a slight break in the heat and humidity on Wednesday. Storm chances will remain but there will be some dry time.

Things should get drier and more seasonable as the week goes on.
