MINNEAPOLIS — Thursday will be a mild one in the Twin Cities ahead of some December rain and even warmer temperatures.

The cloudy and gray pattern continues with a southerly breeze helping push highs into the upper 30s in the afternoon hours. The average high is 26 degrees.

Highs will climb to the lower 40s on Friday and stay there through the weekend.

Overnight lows will be in the low-to-mid 30s, keeping the precipitation with our next system all rain. The bulk of the rain arrives Friday afternoon, with an expected total of a quarter-to-half inch of accumulation in the metro.

There may be a rogue shower Thursday night through Friday morning as well, but everything tapers off into Saturday afternoon.

Another system tries to slide in early next week but should stay south of the metro, ushering in a colder pattern to kick off 2025.

Despite the cold start to December, given how warm the last week of the month will be, it will likely be enough for 2024 to be the warmest year on record for the Twin Cities.

We'll see how the numbers shake out, but it'll easily be in the top three warmest years regardless.
