MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have a new look. Dubbed "The Ripple Effect," the new uniforms are inspired by the waters of Minnesota.

The team unveiled its 2024 City Connect uniform Monday with a rap from local artist Slug, of Atmosphere fame. They feature a wavy, blue design with yellow accents with a loon, the North Star and northern lights.

The cap is emblazoned with the state of Minnesota, and its underside features an outline of the state's ninth largest lake in a nod to Prince's iconic "purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka" line from 1984's "Purple Rain."

The uniforms will make their first on-field appearances on Friday and Saturday when the Twins play the Oakland Athletics at Target Field.

The new jerseys and caps, along with other City Connect apparel, are now available at the team store.

Twins fans split on new fit

The new merch drop sent a wave of season ticket holders to the Twins Shop, but the fan reviews outside Target Field on Monday were mixed.

"I really like the hat design with the water and the shape of Minnesota," said one Twins fan.

"I want them to stick with their old jerseys," said a young fan.

WCCO spoke on Monday with Heather Hinkel, the Twins vice president of brand marketing.

"The City Connect is about capturing the essence of the market, and what we wanted to do is lean into the 10,000 lakes because we all know that the lakes have shaped Minnesota and they unite us together," Hinkel said. "We're here to push the boundaries, right? This isn't supposed to feel like the Minnesota Twins. This is supposed to capture Minnesota. So you always have a little anxiety but I think it's healthy anxiety."

Like them or leave them, the players will be sporting the new looks during 11 games this season.

"It's good, it's good. I could get used to it (laughs)!" said Laura Krueger of Omaha, Nebraska, with some hesitation. "You know, you can't go wrong with the classic pinstripe Minnesota look. But you know, you're a Twins fan for life. They could wear anything."

Last week, the Minnesota Vikings revealed a new uniform of their own. The "Winter Warrior" set features white jerseys and pants with purple and metallic gray accents, as well as white helmets — the first in franchise history.

As of Monday morning, the Twins sit at 34-31, third in the AL Central. They snapped a five-game losing streak with an 11-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in extra innings on Sunday.
