Minnesota Sneaks Past Furman 86-76
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joey King made 8 of 11 shots and scored 19 points as Minnesota got past Furman 86-76 on Monday.
DeAndre Mathieu scored 16 points for Minnesota (10-2), with seven assists and five steals. Nate Mason added 14 points and Maurice Walker had 11.
Stephen Croone hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points for Furman (2-8). Kendrec Ferrara scored a season-high 18 points off the bench.
Ferrara rattled in four consecutive buckets before Geoff Beans' 3-pointer gave the Furman its first lead at 61-60 with 8 minutes left.
Nate Mason, the reigning Big Ten freshman of the week, made all four of his 3-pointers in the second half. His final bucket put the Gophers up 79-74 with 1:51 left.
Croone hit three straight shots during Furman's 17-8 run heading into halftime to pull within 40-33.
