Minnesota Named Best Trails State In The Nation

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Minnesota has been named the "Best Trails State" in the country.

American Trails bestowed the honor stating the state has an outstanding system of trails, while recognizing two Minnesotans for their work to improve that system.

Ron Potter, recreation systems manager for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, received a State Trail Advocacy Award for his support of state trails in the face of budget cuts.

David Hasley, president of the Woodtick Wheelers ATV/OHM Club, received a State Trail Worker Award for his part in organizing the club to reopen ATV areas in the Chippewa National Forest.

The DNR manages more than 600 miles of paved trails for biking and thousands of miles for other outdoor activities such as snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
