Minnesota Men Fined $9K For Shooting Swimming Moose In Canada
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two Minnesota men were fined more than $9,000 for illegally shooting a swimming moose from a boat in Canada this fall.
Mark Greninger, of Palisade, and Paul Greninger, of Maple Grove, each face various fines in connection to killing the moose in September, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry said.
Both men were fined for shooting the moose and discharging a firearm from a motorboat. Mark Greninger, who pulled the trigger, was additionally fined for allowing moose meat to spoil and for making a false statement to conservation officers.
In total, Mark Greninger was fined $6,100; Paul Greninger was fined $3,000.
Both men are banned from hunting in Ontario for two years.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the men were hunting on Windigo Lake, which is about 300 miles north of the Minnesota border.
Mark Greninger shot the bull moose on Sept. 24 while Paul Greninger drove the boat. They brought the animal ashore, skinned it, and took large portions of moose meat to their campsite. Yet, they left tenderloins on the carcass.
When contacted by conservation officers later in the day, Mark Greninger told officers he shot the moose from the shore, which a subsequent investigation found to be false.
Court officials in Canada heard the case earlier this month.
