Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Grows By 78 Acres
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen has grown by 78 acres.
The University of Minnesota bought the Lake Tamarack property in Carver County to restore and protect the watershed. It contains native forest, wetlands, tillable land and 1,300 feet of shoreline. The land is on the north side of Highway 5 and adjacent to the existing University of Minnesota Horticultural Research Center.
Peter Moe, director of operations and research at the Arboretum, says the land will be used for horticultural and environmental research and education, natural resource protection, and recreation including public fishing and hunting access.
The $4.3 million purchase was supported by the state's Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Foundation.
