Minnesota Goalie Wilcox Finalist For Richter Award
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota goaltender Adam Wilcox is among five finalists for the inaugural Mike Richter Award honoring the top goalie in NCAA hockey.
Wilcox on Monday was named the first-ever Big Ten Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year.
Wilcox leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally in wins (23), save percentage (.934) and goals against average (1.91) after guiding the Gophers to the first-ever Big Ten regular-season title.
The sophomore from South St. Paul allowed just 30 goals in 18 conference games this season. He has a 48-12-11 career record for the Gophers with six career shutouts, three this season.
The other Richter Award finalists are Denver's Sam Brittain, Connor Hellebuyck of Massachusetts-Lowell, Wisconsin's Joel Rumpel and Clay Witt of Northeastern. The award will be presented during the Frozen Four in Philadelphia.
