Minnesota DPS Releases Anti-Muslim License Plate Application
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has released the application for a license plate that it called "offensive and distasteful."
Last week, a St. Cloud resident discovered the license plate, which read "FMUSLMS," and posted a photo online. A prominent Facebook page in the city shared the photo and called for followers to write complaints to the DPS. On Monday, officials announced that they were revoking the license plate, calling it "offensive," and saying it should've never been issued.
On Tuesday, the department released the original application for the license plate, which was approved in June 2015. The document shows the issued plate was the driver's first choice, with "PETALOL" second and "8LUGTHG" third.
The application says the driver told officials all three choices were "names of musical bands he is in."
After the DPS revoked the license Monday, officials said they were reviewing the application process for personalized license plates to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
