Minnesota Domestic Violence Fatalities Down In 2014
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The number of people in Minnesota who were killed in acts of domestic violence last year is down compared to the year before.
The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women says 23 people were killed due to domestic violence in the state in 2014, which compares to a total of 37 victims in 2013.
Sixteen women and two men were murdered by a current or former intimate partner.
Five friends, interveners, bystanders or family members were also murdered, according to the coalition.
At Tuesday morning's press conference, the 2014 Clothesline Project was on display as a visual memorial to the lives lost to domestic violence.
The coalition has been tracking and reporting fatal domestic violence figures in the state since 1989.
