Minneapolis Police: Man Killed In Shooting On City's South Side
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in south Minneapolis.
It happened Thursday morning at the intersection of East 24th Street and Oakland Avenue South. At this point, the shooting victim has only been identified as an adult male. Police say the Medical Examiner will release the name of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death.
According to police, a little after 8 a.m. several people in the neighborhood called 911 to report they heard a gunshot. When officers arrived, they found the man dead in the road.
Police are working to determine what led to the shooting and find the person responsible. They roped off the entire block, while nearby businesses went into lockdown.
Police are on the scene collecting evidence and interviewing possible witnesses. They say there could also be witnesses who may have left the scene and are urged to call authorities.
"We can't police our way out of the situation we have now. We can't. We need the community's help," Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said. "We have an incredible track record of solving cases and successful prosecutions through the county attorney's office when the community does step up and help."
Anyone with information that can help lead investigators to a suspect is asked to call police. Witnesses can also anonymously text a tip to 847411 (TIP411) with the letters MPD, a space, and the tip.
