Minneapolis Man Charged In South Mpls. Murder
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 33-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of a south Minneapolis man.
Darrell Mandall Nickerson, Sr. was charged with murder and attempted second-degree murder in the shooting that killed Jamary D. Hearn on July 18.
According to the criminal complaint, Hearn's father was in the kitchen of his home around 10:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of E. 38th Street when he heard a knock on the window.
His 24-year-old son let two men into the house, who proceeded to pull out handguns and demand money. Hearn tried to wrestle the gun away from Nickerson but fell to the floor.
Nickerson and his accomplice began shooting, hitting Hearn and his father. Police found Hearn dead inside the home. His father suffered injuries but survived the shooting.
Hearn's father and two other witnesses, who ran from the home on the day of the shooting, identified Nickerson as someone named "Big Fred." They were later able to pick him out of a photo line-up.
Nickerson was arrested in Chicago on Wednesday. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is processing his return to Minneapolis.
