Man Crashes, Dies On I-94 In North Minneapolis After Being Shot, Police Say
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police are investigating the city's 61st homicide of the year after a man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle on Interstate 94 Sunday evening.
Officers were first called to Dowling Avenue near the interstate at about 5:18 p.m. -- on the border of the Camden and McKinley neighborhoods -- on reports of a shooting. Reports then came in that a shooting victim was driving on the interstate nearby.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was soon found unresponsive in his vehicle on the freeway. He was later pronounced dead at North Memorial Health.
Investigators think the victim and another person were first outside their vehicles on Dowling Avenue when one shot the other. Both got in their vehicles and fled onto eastbound 94, but the victim soon drove off the road and struck meter lights before his vehicle came to a rest on a median.
The victim's identity and official cause of death will be released at a later date. Anyone with information on this deadly shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously online, or at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
