Minneapolis, Fridley Schools Closed Due To Tornado
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- Several schools in north Minneapolis and all Fridley public schools are closed because of the tornado.
Sojourner Truth Academy announced they have closed for the remainder of the school year due to damage. Their last day this year was supposed to be this coming Thursday.
The other Minneapolis schools include Lucy Laney, Cityview Community, Nellie Stone Johnson, Hmong International Academy, Northstar, Plymouth Youth Center and Urban League Elementary.
The school district says families of children who attend north Minneapolis schools that are still open should exercise caution and make sure conditions are safe for their children to leave home and get to school. Students who are unable to make it to school will have their absences excused.
City officials determined Monday afternoon that school buses will not drop students off in the exclusion/destruction zone Monday afternoon. Families who live in the zone should pick up their students at school. Students who live outside the zone will be transported as usual.
School staff will wait at the school until all students are picked up by a parent, guardian or emergency contact.
Minneapolis families can receive shelter assistance, food and water at: Patrick Henry High School, North High School and Folwell Middle School.
