Minn. WWII Vet To Get Combat Medals
COOK, Minn. (AP) -- An 86-year-old veteran of World War II gets his combat medals on Tuesday, more than 60 years late.
Former Army Staff Sgt. Walter King of Cook will receive the medals at a ceremony at his nursing home on Tuesday. King returned to the U.S. without his medals after serving in Europe.
King will get the medals after his sister contacted U.S. Sen. Al Franken and Franken's office tracked them down. A Franken staffer who served in Iraq will present the medals to King.
Franken is expected to congratulate King by phone.
