Minn. Woman Breaks National Powerlifting Record
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Mankato woman broke a national powerlifting record Saturday after she deadlifted 300 pounds at a tournament, according to DCS Fitness.
Jo Ann Burns, owner of the Mankato-based DCS Fitness, broke an Independent Bodybuilding and Powerlifting Association (IBPA) record at a competition in Sleepy Eye, Minn. She lifted more than any woman of any age or weight class has in the 23-year history of the IBPA.
Before Burns, the previous women's record was set at 285 pounds. Burns broke that record when she deadlifted 280 pounds earlier this year. Burns topped her own record Saturday, and she hopes to break her new record at the IBPA National Championships this December.
