Minn. Truckers Steer For Bragging Rights
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's truckers are steering for bragging rights this weekend, with the champs potentially qualifying for a national competition this summer in Utah.
Two days of completing drills and navigating an obstacle course this weekend will determine the state's best professional semi drivers. The Minnesota Trucking Association sponsors the contest, which begins Saturday in Fridley.
Professional truck driving has been glamorized in reality TV shows, most notably History Channel's "Ice Road Truckers."
Truckers pay $125 each to get into the contest, which has nine classes of competition and a team award, too.
Last year's contestants included drivers for UPS, Domino's Pizza, Fed Ex and several other freight delivery companies.
Minnesota's 2012 grand champion was David Eickhoff of Con-Way Freight.
