Minn. Senate Rejects Tax Judge At Dayton Request
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Senate has voted unanimously to reject the confirmation of a Minnesota Tax Court judge who is facing suspension and censure.
The Senate voted Monday against the continued service of Judge George Perez. Gov. Mark Dayton, who reappointed Perez, asked senators to reject his confirmation after the state's Board of Judicial Standards recently ruled that Perez repeatedly violated its code of conduct.
The Board found that Perez delayed cases and then falsified records to hide those delays. Perez had been serving on the Tax Court since former Gov. Arne Carlson appointed him in 1997.
The Senate's vote clears the way for Dayton to appoint a replacement.
