Minn.'s Ellison Wins Democratic Primary
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rep. Keith Ellison has easily defeated two opponents to win the Democratic primary for his Minneapolis-area congressional seat.
Ellison beat frequent candidate Gregg Iverson, and Gary Boisclair, whose website describes him as a pro-life and tea party activist.
Ellison advances to face Republican Chris Fields, a retired Marine who was unopposed.
Ellison was first elected to the 5th District seat in 2006. He was Minnesota's first black member of Congress, and the first Muslim to be elected nationwide.
The 5th District includes Minneapolis and several of its inner-ring suburbs. It is a reliably Democratic district.
