Minn.'s Canterbury Park Opens Racing Season May 17
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) -- Canterbury Park opens its 2013 horse racing season in just about a week.
The 69-day race schedule is the longest for the Shakopee track since 2006. The meet runs until Sept. 14.
This year, weeknight racing begins at 6:30 p.m., a half-hour earlier than past seasons. Racing on weekends and holidays begins at 1:30 p.m.
Canterbury's season opens May 17 with a three-day racing weekend. The Friday opening will feature the $50,000 Lady Slipper Stakes, followed by Saturday's $50,000 10,000 Lakes Stakes, as well as a simulcast of the Preakness Stakes.
The track will unveil a new infield tote board on opening night. The new tote board offers 200 feet of digital information and an 800-square-foot video screen — nearly twice the size of what it replaced. A video board also has been installed in the paddock area.
