Minn. Officials To Update $6.2B Deficit Forecast
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A new economic forecast Monday will show whether Minnesota's $6.2 billion deficit has shrunk since late last year.
Officials release their assessment of state finances at a Capitol news conference after briefing Gov. Mark Dayton and legislators.
Any swing in the numbers isn't expected to significantly change a huge hole in the upcoming two-year budget.
The Democratic governor and Republican Legislature are split on how to handle the shortfall, with Dayton pushing for new high-end income and property taxes and GOP leaders vowing to balance the budget without new tax dollars.
Dayton said Friday that he might revisit his proposals to cut spending on nursing homes and home health care programs if the forecast improves. He said he is also interested in building up the state's cash flow account.
