Dayton Issues Executive Order For Missing Boy
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Governor Mark Dayton issued an Emergency Executive Order Saturday to provide National Guard assistance in the search of a missing boy inSt. LouisCounty.
On Tuesday, the 13-year-old dove into a popular swimming area called "The Deeps" withinLesterRiver Basin. The boy was pulled under and then swept away. The river at the time of the incident was high and moving fast due to heavy rain.
"On Monday evening a storm dumped approximately 3 or 4 inches of rain in theDulutharea causing flash flooding," said Tom Crossmon of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Squad. "Three boys were attempting to swim in Amity Creek. One boy went in on his own. The current took him rapidly near the falls. His friend attempted to help but fell in, he was able to get out. The first boy surfaced but they lost sight of him."
Search and rescue requested the help of the Minnesota National Guard because they have trained personnel who know the area.Daytonissued an Emergency Executive order Saturday to allow the guard to help.
Crossmon said he's been giving the family updates on the hour since Tuesday. He said they've been cooperative and supportive of the county's efforts.
The Minnesota National Guard searched for four hours Saturday morning but found nothing.
Crossmon said they'll begin using sonar equipment on Saturday and into Sunday.
