Most Of Minn. Misses White Christmas By A Day; 150+ Crashes Reported
MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) -- Much of southern Minnesota awoke to a layer of snow that came too late for a White Christmas.
The National Weather Service says Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport had 2 inches of snow by 6 a.m. Saturday. Another inch or two of snow was expected across the Twin Cities area Saturday afternoon and evening.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports that driving conditions are difficult to the west and north of the Twin Cities area. Parts of southwestern Minnesota received 8 inches of snow, including Marshall, Redwood Falls and Slayton.
MnDOT spokesman Kevin Gutknecht says plows have been out in force around Minnesota, with 177 in the Twin Cities metro alone Saturday morning. Dozens of private services and citizens were out plowing communities as well. Gutknecht cautions motorists to slow down.
The weather service says another storm is expected Monday night into Tuesday.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the overnight snow played a factor in 157 crashes. Eleven people were injured, but no one was killed.
