Minn. Man Awarded For Tackling Armed Robber
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota man is getting an award for taking down an armed robber at a convenience store.
John Daiker says he was getting gas late Tuesday night at a SuperAmerica in Rogers when he spotted a young man running into the store and acting suspiciously.
He said he saw the man holding a gun up to the cashier. When the robber ran out of the store, Daiker went after him.
"He ran through here and he stepped up on the curb, and I just plowed through him right here," Daiker said. "When I hit him I actually knocked his shoes off and we landed over there."
The police arrived just moments later.
An officer was staking out the store from across the street because there had been a string of recent robberies at other stores.
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy from Fridley and a 17-year-old girl from Shoreview who had driven the boy to the store.
