Minn. Legislature Sends Voter ID Bill To Dayton
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A bill that would make voters produce photo identification at the polls is on its way to Gov. Mark Dayton.
The Minnesota House approved the legislation 74-58 on Saturday, with two Democrats joining majority Republicans.
It passed the Senate Thursday on a party-line vote without Democratic support.
The Democratic governor has said he wanted to see broad bipartisan support for the bill to get his signature.
Republicans say requiring photo IDs at the polls would make sure elections are honest, while Democrats say it could disenfranchise seniors, students and poor people.
Republicans have said they might put the requirement to a statewide vote in 2012 if Dayton vetoes it.
