Minn. Lawmakers Search Out Political Map Input
MARSHALL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota lawmakers are heading out on tour to seek input about how the next political maps should look.
The House Redistricting Committee planned to visit Marshall on Friday in the first stop in an expected series of field hearings.
The state's political boundaries will be withdrawn before the 2012 election to account for population shifts picked up by last year's census.
Committee chairwoman Sarah Anderson, a Plymouth Republican, said the hearings are aimed at keeping the process transparent. The once-a-decade redistricting has a reputation for being politically charged, and lawsuits are already working their way through state and federal courts.
