Minn. Lawmakers Honor Vets, Talk Of Helping Them
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Nearly 380,000 veterans call Minnesota home, and Minnesota's official remembrance ceremony focused Friday on both honoring and helping them.
Minnesota lawmakers, both Republican and Democrat, thanked veterans for their sacrifice and said that they'll work to make sure they can live the civilian life they deserve.
Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar said veterans deserve to have jobs, education and health care.
Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen said that it's important to support America's men and women in uniform because they are our future leaders.
"I think that's why we have bi-partisan support for them," he said.
On the other hand, Vietnam War veteran Terry Haugen said the sad reality is that veterans often come back after serving and can't find work.
