Minn. Lawmakers Approve Ag Budget, Send To Dayton
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota House and Senate have both passed a two-year budget for agriculture programs and agencies in the state and sent it to Gov. Mark Dayton.
Both chambers passed the bill with bipartisan support Thursday. The bill tracks closely with Gov. Mark Dayton's budget proposals for agriculture, and the Democratic governor is expected to sign the bill.
The bill spends $79 million in the next two years on agriculture programs. It includes what's intended to be a final, $13.7 million payment to ethanol producers as the state looks to phase out such payments.
The bill passed by a margin of 52-9 in the Senate and 107-20 in the Senate. Its sponsors say it was a good example of bipartisan cooperation at the Legislature.
