Minn. Humane Society Takes In 10 Weakened Horses
EAST BETHEL, Minn. (AP) -- The Animal Humane Society in Anoka County has taken possession of 10 weakened horses after protesters alleged animal neglect.
An investigator for the Animal Humane Society says longtime horse breeder Lowell Friday signed over the release of his animals on Thursday.
Authorities removed the horses late last month. Protesters had alleged that Friday hadn't been giving the horses enough food or exercise.
The 72-year-old horse breeder voluntarily surrendered three animals, which have been placed with families. The other seven were seized and are being cared for at the University of Minnesota Equine Center.
Friday still has another 50 to 60 horses on his 45-acre farm that straddles the border of East Bethel and Ham Lake. A St. Paul Pioneer Press report says they weren't distressed enough to warrant seizure.
