Minn. Duluth Beats Nebraska-Omaha 4-1
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Travis Oleksuk scored two goals as Minnesota Duluth beat Nebraska-Omaha 4-1 Friday to leap over the Mavericks into a tie for second place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The teams will continue to jockey for better seeding as they close out the regular season on Saturday.
Denver and Minnesota Duluth have 35 points apiece and Nebraska-Omaha has 34 points. All are assured home ice for the first round of the playoffs.
Oleksuk scored twice in the first period, helping the Bulldogs (20-8-6, 15-7-5) take a 3-1 lead.
Justin Faulk added a first-period goal and David Grun scored in the second for the Bulldogs.
UMD goalie Kenny Reiter made 13 of his 29 saves in the third period.
Johnnie Searfoss scored the only goal for the Mavericks (20-13-2, 16-9-2), who got 31 saves from goalie John Faulkner.
