Minn. DPS: DWI Arrests On St. Patrick's Day Lowest In 6 Years
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More people chose to grab a sober ride this St. Patrick's Day.
Tuesday marked the lowest DWI arrests on the holiday in six years, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
Preliminarily, 94 people were arrested for drunk driving. That's compared to 106 preliminary arrests last year, which was a Monday. The highest DWI arrest total came on a Saturday in 2012 – 346 arrests.
"While the numbers are encouraging, one DWI is too many," the DPS said in a statement. "During the weekend prior to St. Patrick's Day, law enforcement made 326 DWI arrests, compared to 320 the previous weekend."
The DPS added that everyone is encouraged to plan ahead and find a sober ride.
