Minn. District To Vote On Civil Rights Deal
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) -- The St. Cloud school board is set to approve an agreement that would settle a federal civil rights investigation into the alleged harassment of Somali students at two high schools.
The local Board of Education is scheduled to take up the agreement with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education during the board's regular meeting Thursday evening.
The draft agreement calls for the district to make very clear to students, teachers and staff that the harassment of students based on race, color or national origin won't be tolerated.
Among the requirements in the 10-page agreement are publishing a statement condemning intolerance, providing annual training for staff in anti-harassment policies and providing an annual orientation program to students.
The department will continue to monitor the district.
