Minn. Co. Helps Build S.D. Events Center
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Minnesota company that had a hand in building events centers in Minnesota, North Dakota and Iowa has been chosen to help Sioux Falls with its proposed center.
Mortenson Construction of Minneapolis will be included in the design process and will oversee construction if voters eventually approve the events center in South Dakota's largest city.
Mayor Mike Huether tells the Argus Leader that the firm is an expert on building events centers. It helped with centers in Sioux City, Iowa, and Grand Forks, N.D., as well as the homes of the Minnesota Twins and the University of Minnesota football team.
The Sioux Falls City Council approved $500,000 this year to begin designing an events center. Public Works Director Mark Cotter says $70,000 will go to Mortenson Construction for its services.
