Minn. Boy's Make-A-Wish Granted, Meets Joe Mauer
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It wasn't the game of baseball being played at Target Field before today's Twins Game. Instead, an 8-year-old from Lino Lakes with Leukemia asked if he could play video games. That wish – and much more -- came true.
Fans at Target Field had a new player to root for Friday. The cameras weren't there for Joe Mauer, but for Grant Albin.
"It definitely is a dream come true for him as far as what he went through and is continuing to have to deal with," said Albin's father, Rob.
That dream, started with a simple act.
"He wrote a letter to Joe Mauer. His wish was to play a video game with Joe," said Rob.
With the help of the Make a wish foundation, Mauer wrote back.
"(He wrote) that he'd love to play video games with me," said Grant.
As if it wasn't enough to play with his hero, Grant played the video games with Mauer on Target Field's 5800 square foot JumboTron.
"I think he may be a little overwhelmed with everything that's going on," said Mauer.
But Grant might need to get used to the attention, he plans to become a baseball player.
Grant is such a big baseball fan that his original wish was for all the baseball cards in the world, but his mom said their house wasn't big enough. To see the entire letter, click here.
