Mike Reilly Named Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota junior Mike Reilly was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year on Monday.
Reilly was also selected First Team All-Big Ten as the league handed out its end-of-season awards. He leads all NCAA defensemen with 42 points on the season, including 36 assists.
Kyle Rau, Adam Wilcox and Travis Boyd were also selected Second Team All-Big Ten.
Rau has 39 points on the season and 162 for his career, including 66 career goals. Boyd set a career-high this season with 36 points, including 16 goals, in 29 games. He missed all of November with an injury. Wilcox is 20-11-3 this season with a .909 save percentage and a 2.46 goals against average. He leads the NCAA with 71 active career wins.
Brady Skjei was also named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
The Gophers swept Penn State over the weekend to claim their second straight regular season league title and fourth straight counting the WCHA. Minnesota will be the No. 1 seed for this weekend's Big Ten Tournament and will play the Penn State/Ohio State winner Friday night at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
