Mighty Mavericks: Mankato State Baseball Back In The D-II World Series
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State University, Mankato baseball team is headed to its second Division-II World Series in three years.
The 48-10 squad won its conference and regional tournament and now plays in the eight-team, double-elimination World Series taking place from May 26 to June 2 in Cary, N.C.
It's a continuation of Maverick tradition.
"We have a winning program almost every year," senior infielder Patrick Dockendorf said. "It kind of helps to have a good group of seniors and younger guys."
It's a program that Dean Bowyer built into a winner before he retired.
Now, Matt Magers, has his team focused on a title. Then again, it helps that classes ended two weeks ago, giving his players a baseball-only lifestyle.
"They take pride in their preparation," Magers said.
