Metro Transit To Test Central Corridor At Night
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Metro Transit crews are going to test cars by night on their new "green line" light rail transit at the end of the month.
The tests will begin along the western half of the University Avenue stretch the week of August 26.
A light rail vehicle will operate between Stadium Village and Fry Street, just west of Snelling Avenue, drawing power from the overhead wires for the first time along the stretch.
The first live wire test of the green line -- formerly termed the "central corridor" line -- happened late July from the West Bank to the Stadium Village area.
The eastern half of University Avenue and the remaining stops thereafter in St. Paul will undergo testing later this fall. Testing is expected to last a number of months.
During testing, no street or sidewalk closures are scheduled, but drivers and pedestrians are asked to remain aware of the presence of light rail vehicles.
The Green Line is currently scheduled to be fully operational by mid-2014.
