Metro Transit Plans Bus Detours For LRT Construction
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you ride a bus near the University of Minnesota or downtown St. Paul you'll want to plan ahead for the detours coming when the construction of the Central Corridor transit project begins.
Metro Transit said major detours will start on Saturday, May 14.
On May 15, buses and cars will no longer be able to drive on Washington Ave. from Pleasant to Oak Streets on the East Bank of campus. That area will be closed as crews transform the area into a transit and pedestrian mall between Pleasant and Walnut Streets.
A new stop will be added on the West Bank of campus for Express bus riders at 19th Ave. and South Washington. Metro Transit said express buses will travel on University Avenue and 4th St. on the East Bank.
Other routes will still stop at Willey and Anderson Hall on the West Bank and Jones Hall on the East Bank. The Jones Hall stop on Pleasant St. will replace out all Washington Ave. stops.
In downtown St. Paul, Cedar St. will close for construction on May 14, too. Routes will be diverted to 11th St. and Robert St.
The exception to the rule is routes 67 and 75 which will now travel on St. Peter St. and Kellogg Blvd.
