Metro Business Leaders Sleep Outside For Youthlink's 'Night Of Hope'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than 60 of the Twin Cities top business leaders are trading their warm beds for a sleeping bag Sunday night.

It's part of YouthLink's executive sleep-out known as the "Night of Hope." They'll spend the night outside, just like thousands of homeless people do each night.

Along with business leaders, city leaders are also camping out. They include Minneapolis City Council members, Police Chief Janee Harteau, State Senator Scott Dibble, and WCCO's General Manager Brien Kennedy.

Last year, YouthLink helped more than 2,300 young adults get access to basic needs, like a place to sleep, clothes, food and medical attention.

"With just a little bit of help, that little bit of extra help, they can turn their lives around with that opportunity they can become, also can be productive citizens," Heather Huseby, executive director of YouthLink, said.

YouthLink says it can serve 20 meals for just $25 a day and it can turn every dollar donated, into $5 toward helping young adults.

On Monday, WCCO is helping YouthLink try to accomplish its fundraising goal of $200,000. We'll be hosting a phone bank from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
