Memorial, Vigil Held For 4 NDSU Students Killed In Crash
FARGO, N.D. (WCCO) -- A North Dakota State University community joined together Thursday night to remember four classmates killed in a crash.
Jordan Playle, Danielle Renninger, Lauren Peterson and Megan Sample died on the way back to campus Monday. Their car slid across the median of I-94 in heavy snow and hit an SUV head on.
"It's really too bad to lose four outstanding women from the Bison family," said student Zach Peterson.
The victims had only been a part of NDSU for about five months. While a majority who attended Thursday's service didn't know the victims, it doesn't mean they won't remember them.
"I didn't know them personally, but still, it struck pretty hard," student Leah Lemke said.
Around campus Thursday, students wore purple and that theme carried into the night's service. Those who knew the women say the bright colors symbolize their bright personalities.
"Always happy and smiling. That's all I heard from them. That's all I ever saw in them," said student Nick Gonderinger.
It's that fact that makes it so hard. Four young lives with bright futures cut short by a car crash, but their memories live on.
"They are obviously important to people and have made an impact on people here," said student Brittany Indergaard.
Thursday's service was followed by a candlelit vigil.
