Memorial Service For Longtime State Lawmaker Set
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton has proclaimed Tuesday "Linda Scheid Day" in Minnesota and ordered flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the longtime Democratic state lawmaker who died earlier this month.
Scheid died June 15 at her home in Brooklyn Park after a bout with ovarian cancer. She was 68.
A public memorial service celebrating Scheid's life will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center. Dayton plans to attend the service.
Scheid taught overseas before embarking on a three-decade career in the Minnesota Legislature. She first served in the state House and then the Senate.
Scheid bequeathed her body to the University of Minnesota. A scholarship has been set up in her name at Brooklyn Center High School.
