ME: Shakopee Couple Died From Blunt Force Injuries To The Head
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More information has been released in the death of a Shakopee couple allegedly killed by the male victim's adult son earlier this week.
On Thursday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner said the couple were victims of a homicide and both died of blunt force craniocerebral injuries. The examiner says they both died at 8:48 p.m. Monday.
Police say the executed a welfare check at a home on the 1100 block of Dakota Street close to midnight Monday.
There, they found a 68-year-old Terry Weimer and his 67-year-old girlfriend Renee Ahrens dead in the basement. There was no forced entry or signs of burglary.
Police say the investigation quickly focused on Weimer's 40-year-old son, Adam Weimer, who lives in Waseca. When authorities went to his residence, he barricaded himself into a room with a firearm.
The standoff lasted several hours. Negotiators tried talking him into coming out and turning himself in, but he was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound around noon.
Shakopee police, the Bureau of Criminal Affairs and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.
