McD's Hmong Billboard Isn't Quite Perfect
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Members of St. Paul's Hmong community say the new McDonald's billboard in their language may have been an example of intentions trumping execution.
The sign is the first time the fast food chain has advertised in the Hmong language.
Loosely translated, it is supposed to say: "Coffee gets you up, breakfast gets you going."
However, those in the community say the phrase isn't written the way people actually talk in Hmong.
The ad is missing spaces between words and, according to community members, simply doesn't make sense.
But they also said they appreciated the restaurant's attempt to reaching out to the Hmong community.
