Mayor Coleman Named President Of Nat'l League Of Cities
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman has picked up a new title: president.
Coleman assumed the head role at the National League of Cities for 2014 on Saturday during the group's annual conference in Seattle. The Democrat was chosen to lead the cities group for a one-year term soon after he was elected to a third four-year term as mayor of Minnesota's capital city.
He succeeds Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers of Avondale, Ariz.
Coleman is the first Minnesota mayor to hold the title since Minnetonka Mayor Karen Anderson served as president in 2002. Others from Minnesota to serve as league president include Donald Fraser of Minneapolis in 1993 and George Latimer of St. Paul in 1984.
The league counts more than 2,000 towns and cities as dues-paying members.
