Mavericks Try To Bring Title Back To Mankato
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota State University men's basketball team is trying to bring a national title back to Mankato for the first time in program history.
MSU plays Alabama-Huntsville on Wednesday afternoon in the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals at the MassMutual Center arena in Springfield, Mass. The semifinals are on Thursday night and the championship game is on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks beat Winona State, Metro State and Fort Lewis in Central Region games in Mankato last week to advance to the "Elite Eight" for the first time in seven trips to the NCAA tournament.
Coach Matt Margenthaler credits his team's five seniors for the accomplishment. Forward Jefferson Mason was named the Central Region Most Valuable Player for his performance last week.
