Maplewood Teen Sentenced In Stabbing Death Of Girlfriend
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Maplewood teenager has been sentenced to nearly 22 years for the stabbing and beating death of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Anna Hurd, last February in Maplewood's Hillside Park.
Anthony Mitchell, 17, first told police he had gone for a walk with Hurd and that she had left to go to a friend's house.
Mitchell later confessed that he beat and stabbed her after she told him she was breaking up with him.
Under the terms of a plea deal, Mitchell will have to serve 14 year in prison and 8 in supervised probation.
It's a sentence Hurd's mother, Jennifer Hutchings, said is way too short.
"I lost 80 pounds since my daughter's death. I do believe I am dying of a broken heart," Hutchings said. "She was my life and the way that she was taken no one should have to go through that no one."
Mitchell did not speak at the sentencing, but his defense attorney said he is tortured by what he has done.
