Maple Grove's Sophomore Star Already Signed With LSU
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Maple Grove's Sydney Smith can pitch and she can hit, and she does it so well that as just a sophomore she is one of the best in the state.
She's also very competitive.
"It started when I was little," she said. "And, I don't know, I just like it a lot."
She's so good she already has her college plans in place. She's attracted the attention of LSU, where she's signed for a full-ride.
"I played in a national tournament, and they came and watched me," Smith said. "Then they asked me to come down there and look at the campus...and I was just hooked from day one, I guess."
She can hit, too, but it's her right arm that her team is counting on to take Maple Grove the distance.
"Our goal was to win conference, and we did that," she said. "I think our goal now is to win sections, and then move on to state and see how that happens. And if we keep playing how we are playing...then we will for sure move on to state."
