MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Overnight snow has led to motorists crashing or sliding off roadways in several spots around the Twin Cities Thursday morning, including one crash that hurt a police officer.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened just before 5 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 94 in the Rogers-Maple Grove area.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says a semi-truck crashed into the median near Dayton Parkway, sending concrete flying across the interstate.

A Maple Grove police officer who responded to the crash was then struck from behind by another vehicle. They were taken to North Memorial Health with non-life-threatening injuries, the state patrol says. The motorist who struck the officer was not hurt.

Eastbound Ianes were closed for nearly two hours following the crash. That stretch reopened at about 7 a.m. after causing big backups in the area.

Just after 7 a.m., MnDOT cameras caught the moment a semi crashed into a pickup truck that was already disabled after sliding off the road in Wright County.

The pickup, which was towing a trailer, is seen striking the median cable barrier on County Road 8 near Highway 25 a few miles east of Clearwater.

A MnDOT vehicle pulls up to help, then moments later it moves further off the road before the semi enters the frame, crashing into the truck and trailer at relatively slow speed. It's unclear if anyone was injured.
