Maple Grove Lake Plunge To Help Special Olympics
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) -- More than 800 people are expected to strip down to swimsuits and dive into freezing Weaver Lake in Maple Grove to benefit the Special Olympics.
The Maple Grove Polar Plunge begins at 1 p.m. Saturday. It's one of 14 plunges organized by Minnesota law enforcement agencies this winter to raise money for the Special Olympics.
In 2010, more than 7,000 people took the plunge at 13 locations around the state and raised $1.4 million for the organization.
Saturday's plungers got relatively lucky with a temperature forecast to hover around freezing before the state dives back into the deep freeze next week.
